![]() ![]() ![]() There’s nothing much we can say to that, except that at least the huge number of other zombie games means there are plenty of other, better, alternatives. We’re not sure how much the game’s bungled launch is going to affect Dying Light’s sales, but based on previous experience there seems literally nothing that will put people off buying a zombie game if the premise looks even halfway intriguing. The game also makes no attempt to limit how many times you’re invaded in a certain period, so we ended up quickly turning the option off so that we could actually get somewhere in the campaign. This sounds fine in principal but actually getting to the point where either party wins can take ages. We’re less convinced by the Be A Zombie mode though (now available free to everyone because of the game’s launch problems) which sees you being invaded by another player controlling a super powerful zombie. But despite zombies presenting the perfect excuse for simplistic artificial intelligence Dying Light still manages to ruin the illusion, as bugs cause them to get stuck in scenery or suddenly teleport away.Ĭertainly the four-player co-op will go down very well, and although unstructured in terms of the story campaign the little mini-challenges to try and outdo your friends are undeniably a great way to spend an hour or so online. The zombies, oddly, often look particularly unconvincing and the city design is very bland – but at least it’s no longer outright embarrassing. Graphically the game is a definite improvement on Dead Island but still behind the curve in terms of most games. But not only is this, like most other things in the game, a one trick pony, but what you’ll be doing before you get spotted is creeping around stealthily hoping no one sees you. But night is when the most dangerous monsters come out, which results in all the terrified runs back to a safe house that made the game look so enticing in the trailers. The best way to improve your skills quickly is to venture out at night, when you gain experience at twice the usual rate. But these take a long time to unlock and they only seem so useful because the first several hours of playing the game makes everything so difficult and tiresome. There is a decent number of upgradeable skills you can learn, which increase your agility, and add useful skills like a dodge and a more powerful attacks. Which given the repetitive nature of the quests and the terrible script (there’s no story worth speaking of and the voice-acting is terrible) leaves the game with a very hollow centre. It is at least a new idea, but it does help only to emphasis the zombies as obstacles and distractions rather than proper enemies you’ll have fun fighting. ![]()
